‘Educating Toft’

Toft’s bi-annual review takes place on Friday and Saturday 26/27 January, and this time we see  ‘schoolboys’  taking ballet lessons, the famous ‘chalet-maids’ getting into mischief and I will don my St Trinian’s girl’s uniform to face the headmaster in his study. I’ll serenade him with the glorious song ‘Teach Me Tonight’  to try to win his approval! It’s all crazy and hilarious in typical Toft fashion.

A new song for 2018

Every blessing for 2018.

The partying couldn’t go on for ever so on 29 December I met with the lovely vocalist Cathy Matthews to work on my own song Lavender and Lace.  It’s as far removed from jazz and blues as you could imagine – the creative process often leads to very unexpected places!  Enabling other people to use their own creativity can be really fulfilling, on both sides, so I sent my original ideas to Cathy who found her own place in the song and some delicious harmonies have emerged.

It was the same with guitarist Gerry Pruciewicz  who I’ve worked with for many years and I knew that his musical interpretation of my very limited explanation would be amazing.   I don’t know how he does it but his guitar on it’s own could tell the story of this song, never mind the lyrics!!     So, we will take it to the studio sometime soon – watch this space!!

I was speaking recently with the fabulous jazz singer Lee Gibson and during the conversation she said, “we don’t choose music, music chooses us”!!  That’s a whole new post!

Lafayette, Louisiana USA

Very excited to be visiting Louisiana, USA in April 2018 to sing ‘the blues’ with Mark Warner and his band – at last I get to perform in America!! 🎶🎤

Hot Numbers

I’m looking forward to this Friday (29th), playing at Hot Numbers in Cambridge. I don’t often get to perform in my home town so this is a real treat.  The musicians in my Turquoise band are pretty awesome so everyone is in for a great time. We’re playing a very eclectic mix over two sets, just to keep the audience (and ourselves) guessing!!  😉
